Kathmandu, May 3
Meteorologists say there is no immediate sign of improvement in the current weather conditions.
Forecasters at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology have predicted rainfall across the country throughout this week, with Gandaki Province expected to be the most severely affected. Snow and rain are likely in Gandaki’s Terai, hilly, and Himalayan zones all week, with one or two locations potentially seeing heavy precipitation.
Meteorologists say that even if the rain pauses briefly at times, it is expected to resume shortly after.
Terai region forecast
Rainfall has been ongoing in several districts since yesterday. Meteorologist David Dhakaal of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely across various parts of the country this week. He noted that through Tuesday, moderate rainfall is expected across much of the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as Madhesh Province, with one or two locations possibly receiving heavy rain. Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces are forecast to see only light to moderate rain in a few spots.
From Wednesday through Thursday, light to moderate rain is projected in scattered Terai areas across all provinces.
Hills to face rain throughout the week
Through Tuesday, moderate rain is forecast for many areas in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and some areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim. From Wednesday to Thursday, moderate rain is expected in selected areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini, and in fewer spots in Karnali and Sudurpashchim. Heavy rain is possible in one or two locations in Gandaki throughout the week, and in Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini through Tuesday.
Snow and rain likely in the Himalayas too
According to Dhakaal, snow or rain is possible in the Himalayan region throughout the week.
