Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, the chief guest at the Ujyalo Nepal Party announcement event, said that leadership is more important than ideology when it comes to the country’s development.
Reflecting on the 75 years since 2007 BS, he noted that although ideologies and systems have changed many times, Nepal has still not achieved economic development. He said the country has failed to progress because the right people were not chosen for leadership.
“In 75 years, we witnessed many political changes. Our leaders succeeded in bringing political change, but they failed in leading an economic revolution,” he said. “Those who could deliver big speeches in politics consistently failed to lead development. No one practiced result-oriented politics.”
He added that around 2007 BS, Nepal, India and China all underwent political changes, but in the 75 years since then, India and China achieved massive economic growth.
“In 2007 BS, Nepal saw political change. India and China also experienced major political shifts. In 75 years, China has increased its GDP by 350 times and India by 150 times,” he said. “Nepal, however, has managed to grow only 75 times. This is where we fell behind.”
