Crackdown on educational consultancies: Over Rs 200,000 fined in a single day

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has intensified monitoring of educational consultancies across the Kathmandu Valley. The department began its inspections from the start of the Nepali month of Shrawan (mid-July).

According to the department, monitoring teams inspected 24 to 25 consultancies over four days and fined six of them. A total of Rs 305,000 in penalties has been collected so far.

Senior Monitoring Officer Amit Jha said that four consultancies were fined Rs 203,000 on Sunday alone after being found operating without mandatory licenses. “They were penalised under Clause 6 of the 2073 BS Directive on Educational Consulting and Language Training issued by the Ministry of Education,” Jha told Onlinekhabar. “These consultancies were found running without authorisation from the Ministry of Education.”

Among those fined were Goretto Kumari Pati Pvt. Ltd., Haruto Global Education Consultancy, and Netcoms Service Pvt. Ltd. in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-5, each fined Rs 51,000. National Institute of Management Excellence in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-29 was fined Rs 50,000.

Other consultancies have been instructed to appear before the department within three days with all business-related documents.

Earlier, on July 16–17, SS Education Solution Pvt. Ltd. and Oxbridge Foundation for Global Studies, both based in Lalitpur-5, were each fined Rs 51,000.

Additionally, on Sunday, the department imposed Rs 410,000 in fines — Rs 205,000 each — on Wellness Organic Club Pvt. Ltd. in Kathmandu-2 and Nexon Corporation Pvt. Ltd. in Mahalaxmi Municipality-4.
