Meet Saurabh Jyoti: The Shark championing Nepal’s next generation of entrepreneurs

Kathmandu, June 19

Nepal’s entrepreneurial landscape is undergoing a vibrant transformation, and at the heart of this evolution is Shark Tank Nepal — a high-stakes reality television show that’s redefining how dreams take shape in the country. More than just a local adaptation of the globally acclaimed Shark Tank franchise, the Nepali-language version has become a national platform for innovation, investment, and inspiration.

Broadcast on Himalaya Television, Shark Tank Nepal invites aspiring entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to a panel of esteemed investors known as “Sharks.” These seasoned business leaders evaluate, challenge, and—when convinced—invest in promising ventures, offering not just funding but valuable mentorship and industry insights.

Set against the backdrop of Nepal’s evolving startup ecosystem, the show addresses key challenges faced by young innovators: limited access to capital, insufficient exposure, and a lack of experienced guidance. It offers an unprecedented stage where bold ideas meet sharp business minds, and where dreams can receive the fuel they need to take flight.

What truly sets Shark Tank Nepal apart is its rootedness in Nepali reality. While it mirrors the successful global format, the show is steeped in local context—celebrating culturally informed ideas and homegrown solutions tailored for Nepal’s unique needs. From tech startups to traditional crafts, from green innovation to grassroots enterprise, the show captures the full spectrum of Nepal’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Every episode is more than entertainment—it is a masterclass in business, a celebration of ambition, and a testament to what’s possible when vision meets opportunity.

Among the dynamic panel of Sharks, one name stands out for his deep impact on Nepal’s industrial and entrepreneurial ecosystem—Saurabh Jyoti. A business magnate with a passion for youth empowerment, Jyoti exemplifies the kind of leadership that is shaping the future of Nepal.

He is the Chairperson of the Padma Jyoti Group of Companies, a powerhouse conglomerate with diverse operations in manufacturing, services, trading, and investments. Employing over 3,000 people, the group champions sustainable business practices and forward-thinking governance—values that align closely with the ambitions of Nepal’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

Educated at St Joseph’s College in Darjeeling and a graduate in Industrial Engineering and Management from BMS College of Engineering in Bangalore, Jyoti has continually upgraded his leadership acumen, most recently through the Advanced Leadership Program at Rice Business in the US.

His ventures have touched nearly every sector critical to Nepal’s growth. In automotive, he leads Syakar Trading Company, the official distributor of Honda. He has also launched homegrown brands like SJ MOTO and Bike Minded. In infrastructure, his efforts include Himal Iron and Steel, Himal Oxygen, and Himal Wires. His entrepreneurial reach has extended to healthcare and hospitality as well, with past investments in Grande City Hospital and Aloft Kathmandu.

Beyond business, Jyoti is a staunch advocate for youth. He has led organisations like the Nepal Young Entrepreneurs Forum and the SAARC Young Entrepreneurs Forum, and currently serves as an advisor to the FNCCI Start-Up and Innovation Committee. His YouTube ventures, including a channel promoting motorcycle culture and the 360 Leadership talk show, reflect his desire to educate and uplift.

Recognised with multiple awards, including the Boss Young Entrepreneur Award and the Youth Ambassador for Peace Award, Saurabh Jyoti is not just a Shark—he’s a symbol of what committed, visionary leadership can achieve in a rising Nepal.

As Shark Tank Nepal continues to inspire, investors like Jyoti are ensuring it also transforms—one idea, one founder, one deal at a time.
