Police use batons on youths protesting at EPS Korea Office in Lalitpur

Kathmandu, May 5

Police baton-charged a group of youths staging a sit-in protest at the EPS Korea Branch under the Department of Foreign Employment in Gwarko, Lalitpur, on Monday.

The youths were protesting to demand their right to go to South Korea for employment. According to one of the protesters, police used force against them during the demonstration.

Officers reportedly warned media personnel not to take photographs and threatened to detain those who did not comply.

Nirajan Singh, one of the protesters, told Onlinekhabar that despite passing the Korean language test over 18 months ago, many youths have still not been allowed to go to Korea for employment. He said they have been protesting for the past three days to pressure the government into taking action.
