Significant drop in stock market, NEPSE falls below 2,900

The stock market experienced a significant drop on Sunday, with the NEPSE index falling by 79.88 points compared to the previous trading day. Following this decline, the NEPSE index has now dropped to 2,894 points.

The total trading volume reached Rs 19.74 billion.

While the prices of 60 companies rose, 184 saw a decline. On this day, all sectoral indices, except for microfinance, recorded a decrease.

Microfinance, however, increased by 1.08 per cent. The banking sector fell by 3.31 per cent, development banks by 2.44 per cent, finance companies by 3.50 per cent, hotels and tourism by 2.38 per cent, hydropower by 3.04 per cent, investment by 3.83 per cent, life insurance by 2.50 per cent, manufacturing by 1.98 per cent, non-life insurance by 2.32 per cent, others by 3.55 per cent, and the trading sector by 1.76 per cent.

Despite the overall market decline, the prices of three microfinance companies increased by 10 per cent. These were Win Nepal, Upakar, and Aatmanirbhar Microfinance, all of which saw a 10 per cent rise. Other notable gainers included Three Star Hydropower, which rose by 9.9 per cent, Dhaulagiri Microfinance by 8.1 per cent, Gurans Microfinance by 7.2 per cent, Corporate Development Bank by 6.9 per cent, Saptakoshi Development Bank by 6.9 per cent, and Samaj Microfinance by 6.8 per cent.

On the other hand, Mandakini Hydropower saw the largest decline, with its price dropping by 9.9 per cent. Other significant losers included Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower, down by 7.9 per cent, Menchhyam Hydropower by 7 per cent, Central Finance by 7 per cent, and Shine Resunga Development Bank by 6.7 per cent.

In terms of trading volume, Api Power, Himalayan Reinsurance, Shine Resunga Development Bank, Arun Valley Hydropower, and Shivam Cement led the market.
