Three-nation art exhibition fosters unity among women artists

Kathmandu, July 29

The international painting and sculpture exhibition at the Nepal Art Council concluded on Sunday, showcasing the works of 59 women artists from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. The five-day event featured 194 paintings, including those by 16-year-old Shusmita Jimee from Nepal, whose works depicted Mt. Machhapuchre and women’s household contributions.

Inaugurated by Bangladeshi Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury and former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts Ragini Upadhaya Grela, the exhibition highlighted the diverse artistic talents of the participating countries. Eminent artists Sushma Rajbhandari and Dr Seema Shah were special guests.

Artists used various media, such as acrylic on canvas, charcoal sketches, and watercolours, attracting art lovers of all ages. Notable participants included Bangladeshi artist Lubna Habib, who returned to fine arts after a hiatus, and Indian artist Iti Bhattacharya, whose minimalistic acrylic painting “Solitary” received significant attention.

Nepali artist Anuradha Thapa, with 46 years of experience, showcased her Lord Buddha-themed artworks, emphasising the importance of such events in motivating artists and encouraging the younger generation.

Organised by India’s Spread Wings, Bangladesh’s Ghuddi, and Nepal’s Lalitya Kala Jagaran, the exhibition fostered cultural bonds and artistic exchanges among the three nations.
