Kathmandu, March 6

The House of Representatives has formed an impeachment recommendation committee to study the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota announced the formation of the 11-member committee during the House meeting this afternoon. The main opposition, CPN-UML, has also been represented in the committee although the party has been obstructing the House meeting for the past several months demanding the removal of Speaker Sapkota.

On February 13, lawmakers of the ruling alliance filed the impeachment motion at the Federal Parliament Secretariat demanding the removal of CJ Rana.

According to article 101(3) of the constitution, the impeachment recommendation committee will now make a recommendation after inquiring into whether there exists the ground and reason for moving a motion of impeachment against any person.

Rape-accused lawmaker suspended

Meanwhile, Sapkota also announced that CPN-UML lawmaker Mohan Baniya has been suspended as per the House rules after he was arrested on a rape charge.
