Kathmandu, January 3
Lawmaker Resham Chaudhary has formed a new party, months after the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, which he belonged to, split.
On Monday, supporters of Chaudhary applied to the Election Commission for the registration of Nagarik Unmukti Party under the leadership of his wife Ranjita Shrestha. Chaudhary himself was not present at he is serving his time at the Dillibajaar Jail in Kathmandu for his involvement in the 2015 murder of some police personnel.
The commission, however, has not given the registration certificate to the party.
When the JSPN split, Chaudhary had positioned himself neutral, but both sides had been claiming he supported them.
