Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kul Man Ghising has assured the public that there will not be any interruption in the supply of electricity during Tihar, which is celebrated as the festival of lights for five days every year.

As the festival started on Tuesday, Ghising says, “We will provide our consumers with electricity during Tihar notwithstanding the amount of demand.”

Organising a press meet in Kathmandu today, Ghising said the country would need around 1,500 megawatts of electricity during peak hours of Laxmi Puja, the night when almost all families illuminate their houses and businesses. Laxmi Puja is being celebrated on Thursday.

When Nepal was facing hours of a daily power outage or load-shedding in 2016, Ghising had launched his plan to eliminate the problem from the country on the day of Laxmi Puja. He was successful in implementing his plan, securing unprecedented popularity as the chief of the government’s power distribution monopoly.

Thanks to the same feat, the government had reappointed him to the position in August this year although he had completed his four-year term in September last year.
