Kathmandu, March 20
With the government imposing tougher restrictions on the operation of various businesses and the movement of people in its bid to avert the infection of the novel coronavirus, many people have feared obstructions in the country’s supply system. However, the government has assured that the supply of daily essentials will not be obstructed.
Officials in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies have prepared the following list including the items which will be made available even if the country goes on lockdown.
Foodstuffs
- Rice
- Corn
- Beaten rice (Chiura)
- Wheat, maida, and flour
- Lentils
- Salt
- Sugar
- Tea
- Cooking oil: Mustard and soya bean
- Ghee
- Milk (including baby food and milk powder)
- Vegetables: Potato, onion and tomato
- Meat
- Fruits: Mausambi, orange, banana, apple
- Spices: Cumin, peppercorn, ginger, coriander and chilli
Other essentials
- Medicines
- Clothes
- Soaps: Laundry soap and toilet soap
- Kerosene, diesel, petrol and aviation fuel
- Chemical fertiliser
- Firewood and coal
Construction materials
- Cement
- Rod
- Zinc sheets
- GI and polythene pipes
- Brick
- Wood
Stationery
- Paper, notebook, ink, pen, pencil
- Newsprint
The Ministry of Home Affairs says it will also add hand sanitiser and mask to the list.
