Industrialists plan new mask factories to counter market crisis

Kathmandu, March 6

Amid the growing threats of the coronavirus epidemic in Nepal, the market has begun to suffer an unexpected shortage of surgical masks. To counter the challenge, a few industrialists of the country have begun to establish new factories.

Prominent industrialist Deepak Malhotra among others has expedited talks with concerned government authorities to establish a company. The government has also agreed to facilitate the process, it has been learned.

Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada, speaking at a press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday, had said the government would soon move forward the process to establish such factories after doing the necessary homework.

Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, the president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, says the domestic industry can address the current market demand if the government is ready to extend the needful support.

There are a few mask production companies in Nepal, which are currently suffering a shortage of raw material due to the increasing demand for the product in the international market also.
