Two arrested in Kathmandu for kidnapping three kids

Two persons arrested on the charge of kidnapping three children of Kathmandu in December 2019

Kathmandu, December 20

Police in Kathmandu have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in abducting three children of the capital and holding them hostage.

Aashish Sijapati (24) from Baneshwar of Kathmandu and Binod Thapa Magar from Gorkha were arrested on the charge of kidnapping the kids from Samakhusi area of the capital. DSP Hobindra Bogati says the abduction took place when the children’s guardian was in Pokhara last week.

The mother of two victims later told police that her children had known Sijapati as ‘an uncle’. He used to frequent the victims’ house but he had lent the family some money whenever there was need.

Police suspect that the kids might have been abducted as the family had failed to repay Rs 200,000 to Sijapati on time.

The duo had taken the kids to a hotel in Tokha on the northern outskirts of Kathmandu before telephoning the guardian demanding Rs 300,000 as ransom. Police also arrested the hotel operator, but the name has not been revealed.
