Ghorahi, December 15
Unusually enough, two major political parties of the country–Nepal Communist Party and Nepali Congress–decided to form an alliance between lawyers aligning them for the election of Dang district chapter of Nepal Bar Association, the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers. However, they failed to win the election.
Instead, the ‘independent’ candidates who had rebelled the party orders to contest the election won the positions of president, vice-president and three members.
‘Rebel’ Shiva Prasad Ghimire was elected to the top position by defeating Rishi Raj Neupane by four votes whereas Mani Raj Acharya was elected his deputy by defeating Thakur Prasad Oli by just one vote. Ghimire is close to the Nepali Congress whereas Acharya is close to the NCP. Both were unhappy with the election alliance.
