Hospital prepares to discharge PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli with a medical team of Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu, December 4

After nine days of his admission, the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre is preparing to discharge Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. He is likely to get discharged this evening or tomorrow.

Oli had gone to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on November 26 for a checkup. However, doctors found that he was suffering from appendicitis and needed an immediate operation. He underwent the operation on the same day.

While being treated at intensive care unit of the hospital, Oli also underwent a round of dialysis for his kidney, transplanted around 12 years ago.

Sources at the hospital say that it is discharging the prime minister due to his request to let him take rest at the residence in Baluwatar. Otherwise, the doctors were unwilling to discharge him now as he had low oxygen and platelets in the blood, the sugar level was fluctuating and he needed regular dialysis.

A doctor who attended Oli says the prime minister thought that his long stay in the hospital could give a negative message about his health.

“Hence, we are preparing to send him to Baluwatar, but he will be under our observation,” he says. The doctors have recommended a complete rest for Oli for at least seven days today onwards.
