CIAA probing Kathmandu city’s smart parking, broomer procurement deals

File: Broomers

Kathmandu, November 13

The country’s anti-corruption constitutional body, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), has launched an investigation into some recent decisions of the capital’s city government.

The commission has launched the investigation after it received complaints about suspected irregularities in the granting of the contract for smart parking and smart advertising board and the procurement of broomers. The commission wrote to Kathmandu Metropolitan City last week, urging it to submit all documents within the next week.

A complainant has claimed that the city government handed over the smart parking contract without competition. Further, irregularities have been suspected as the same company, Wheels Truly Yours Pvt Ltd, won the contract for managing advertising boards also.

On the other hand, in March-April this year, the city had purchased five broomers, spending around Rs 110 million. The executive meeting of the city had decided to make the purchase without calling tenders. Hence, the commission has suspected that the documented cost is not real.

Meanwhile, the city is preparing papers to submit to the commission, informs Bakhat Bahadur Saud, the chief of the KMC Administration Division.

He says the documents are likely to be submitted on Wednesday.
