Pokhara, March 12
Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba says that the deal between Madheshi activist CK Raut and the government was against the interest of Nepal.
Deuba, who was speaking at a programme in Pokhara, said the deal’s language was ambiguous and indicated that Raut still wants Madhesh to become independent. “We cannot tolerate the thought of declaring any part of Nepal independent. The agreement with CK Raut is against our national interest,” Deuba added.
Deuba objected to Prime Minister KP Oli’s clarification that the government had not agreed to conduct a referendum in Madhesh even as Raut continues to harp on independence. “CK Raut says he wants to build a new nation. He never wants to join mainstream politics,” Deuba added.
