As many as 18 central leaders of the newly split Bibeksheel Nepali Party have volunteered for a mass arrest as they staged a demonstration in solidarity with the fast-unto-death being staged by medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC.
They staged the protest outside the Parliament building in Naya Baneshwor, where staging demonstrations is banned.
The detainees including the party’s chief Ujwal Thapa and leaders Shashi Bikram Karki, Ajita Rai, Dinesh Prasain, Ambika Karki, Sujan Shrestha, Ramji Panta, Milan Pandey and Sonam Thimi.
They have been kept at Nepal Police Club currently.
Meanwhile, the government is preparing to table the National Medical Education Bill in the House of Representatives seeking its endorsement after a while. Dr KC has demanded that the bill be corrected as per an agreement signed with him earlier.
