Chitwan, July 10
The Chitwan National Park on Tuesday saw off two one-horned rhinoceros that Nepal is gifting the northern neighbour, China.
Nepal had agreed to gift four rhinos to China around two years ago. Two of them, one-and-half-year-old Bharda (male) and two-year-old Rupasi (female) will fly to Beijing on Thursday. Two others will be sent next year.
The Park organised a special function in Sauraha today for the farewell of its members. The Park’s Chief Conservation Officer Bed Bahadur Dhakal says the rhinos will be kept at Kathmandu’s Central Zoo before they will be flown to China.
A 14-member team of Nepali officials including two veterinary doctors and three technicians will fly to Beijing along with the gifts. Likewise, there will be a Chinese team including a veterinarian, two keepers and a pilot.
A technical team from China was in Nepal since June last week to carry out needful preparations.
The Chitwan National Park so far has gifted 26 rhinoceros to different countries.
