Kathmandu, January 30

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has called a meeting of the party’s Standing Committee to finalise the criteria for the party’s candidates for chief ministers and provincial speakers.

The meeting will also discuss preparations for the National Assembly elections as well as the proposed unification with the CPN-Maoist Centre.

The left alliance, consisting the UML and the Maoist Centre, is preparing to lead provincial governments and legislatures in six provinces; namely 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The two parties have agreed that the UML will lead governments in provinces 1, 3, 4 and 5 and legislatures in provinces 1, 3, 6 and 7.

It is very likely that Shankar Pokhrel will led the government in Province 5 whereas there are more than one leaders to claim the chief minister’s position in provinces 1, 3 and 4.
