RJP no longer interested in talks, announces agitation

Kathmandu, June 11

The newly-formed Rastriya Janata Party, which has been demanding that the second round of elections be postponed, has announced protests aimed at hampering polling on June 28.

A meeting of the party held in Kathmandu decided not to contest the election and organise programmes to disrupt the poll process.
The party has called for an indefinite strike in Madhesh four days ahead of the election, on June 24.

RJP leader Rajendra Mahato said his party is no longer interested in talks with the government. However, he added that the RJP would consider contesting the elections if the government fulfills its demands.

The RJP has demanded that the constitution be amended to address it demands, it cadres arrested on various charges released, and number of local bodies in Madhesh increased to reflect the size of the population.
