Controversial businesswoman appointed Nepal envoy to Oman

Kathmandu, April 28

Controversial businessperson Sharmila Parajuly Dhakal has been appointed the Nepal Ambassador to Oman on Friday.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari made the appointment after the Council of Ministers recommended and the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee endorsed her name for the diplomatic berth.

The Cabinet’s recommendation had drawn flak from various sectors after Parajuly was found involved in the business of recruiting Nepalis to go work abroad.

She, however, had denied the charge during the parliamentary hearing.

She had claimed that she was an academic, and was saddened to read reports about her ‘involvement’ in the recruiting business.

Nepal Democratic Forum Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar had reportedly piled pressure on the government to insert her name in the list again though Foreign Affairs Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat had withdrawn her name after the controversy surfaced.

Meanwhile, the President also appointed economistBishwambher Pyakuryal as the Nepali Ambassador to Sri Lanka, the President’s Office informed in a statement today.
