20 idols stolen from Chandannath Temple recovered, one still missing, search underway

Idols stolen a month ago from Chandannath Temple in Jumla have been found.

Twenty-one idols were stolen from the temple on November 26.

Jumla chief district officer Rudra Prasad Pandit told Onlinekhabar that all idols save the silver idol of Dattatreya have been found. Two conch shells are among the objects recovered.

The idols have been recovered from paddy fields and a riverbed at Depal VDC. The Dattatreya idol is still missing, a search for the same is on.

The Dattatreya idol has a crown made of gold, while other parts are made of silver. After the theft, a team from the Central Investigation Bureau had conducted an on-site investigation in Jumla.

The spot from where the idols were recovered is a three-hour walk from Jumla district headquarters Khalanga. Local women had informed police after finding the idols in paddy fields and on riverbed. Subsequently, a team comprising CDO and police personnel had visited the site.

Preparations are afoot to bring back the idols. People waiting to have glimpses of the lost idols are thronging the temple.
