Kathmandu, April 19
Five officials including the chief of Transport Management Office in Itahari of Sunsari have been suspended on Wednesday after they were accused of embezzling revenue.
Chief of the office, Under-Secretary Nayaraj Nepal, Account Officer Tikaram Adhikari, Accountant duo Suresh Adhikari and Rudra Prasad Dahal and Nayab Subba Tika Banstola have been accused of embezzling Rs 565.8 million from the state coffers.
Suresh Adhikari is said to be the mastermind behind the misappropriation.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport decided to suspend the officials and write to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority to launch a detailed probe into the case today.
The Ministry’s internal investigation had found the five being involved in the embezzlement for last three years.
Director General at the Department of Transport Management, Rup Narayan Bhattarai, said the further investigation would be carried out by the CIAA.
