The East Regional Police Office in Biratnagar is planning to deploy around 33,000 Nepal Police personnel for the second phase of local level elections on June 28.

Chief of the ERPO, DIG Ramesh Bhattarai, says 18,000 police personnel would be assisted by 15,000 temporary police.

The total number of police personnel in the Eastern Development Region is just 13,000, hence personnel from other regions would also be called in, he informs, adding the number can go a bit up.

“We are just in the preliminary phase of mobillisation now,” he shares, “We are ready to increase the number if necessary.”

Besides police and temporary police, personnel from Nepal Army and Armed Police Force would also be deployed for poll security.

One metropolitan city, two sub-metropolitan cities, 60 municipalities and 108 rural municipalities of Province 1 will go to polls next week.
