3 killed, 28 missing in Sindhupalchok landslides

Kathmandu, September 13

At least three persons have died in different incidents of landslides in Bahrabise municipality of Sindhupalchok, around 85 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu, in the wee hours of Sunday.

Whereas security personnel have recovered bodies of Bhakti Maya Shrestha (65) of Nagpuje, Junu Maya BK (23) of Bhirkharke, and Sarkini Newar (60) of Newar Tole, at least 28 others are missing, informs DSP Prakash Sapkota of Sindhupalchok District Polie Office.

Many houses have been buried in the landslides in these three places lying in Bahrabise-7 after incessant rainfall last night. DSP Sapkota says locals have reported destruction of 11 houses so far.

Personnel of Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force have launched a rescue operation.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, who represents a constituency of the district in the House, has gone to the landslide-hit areas this morning.
