The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has provided 20 satellite phones to support search, rescue and relief operations following the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said the satellite phones were provided to ensure smooth and uninterrupted communication after disruptions to communication services in disaster-affected areas made rescue and coordination efforts difficult.
According to the authority, 10 of the satellite phones have been sent to Rasuwa and 10 to Nuwakot for immediate use.
The use of satellite phones in areas where telecommunications infrastructure has been damaged by floods and landslides is expected to improve coordination among search and rescue teams and facilitate the timely sharing of information from the field.
