2 killed, 2 missing as landslide buries police van in Chitwan

The Narayangadh-Muglin road is obstructed by a landslide.

Chitwan, June 23

Two police personnel have died while two others have gone missing as a van carrying them was buried in a landslide at Kalikhola along the Narayangadh-Muglin road in Chitwan district on Thursday night.

The landslide also blocked the vital road connecting Kathmandu with the East-West Highway.

Police personnel from the Muglin Area Police Office had come to Kalikhola on the van (Na 1 Jha 1390) to observe the situation after the blockage. But, their van was also buried by another landslide while returning to office, according to the District Police Office.

The victims have been identified as ASI Nishchal Tamang and Constable Deepak Maskey, according to the DPO Chief, SP Deepak Thapa.

Constable duo Sandeep Karki and Lil Bahadur Chepang are missing and the search operation is underway.

Meanwhile, the landslip pushed a truck (Na 5 Kha 7827) into the Trishuli River. Assistant driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Sanu Bholan of Manahari in neighbouring Makawanpur district, has sustained injuries in the accident.

He has been rushed to Bharatpur for treatment.

The truck driver jumped off the vehicle to save himself.

Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers have stuck halfway due to the road obstruction. Efforts are underway to resume the traffic.
