2 Indian nationals killed as car plunges into Phewa Lake

Two people died, and two others were injured when a car with an Indian license plate, travelling from Sedi towards Lakeside, plunged into Phewa Lake at 4:50 am at the Gairichautara bend in Pokhara-18 today.

According to Police Inspector Deepak Prasad Rijal, the Acting Information Officer at the District Police Office, Kaski, the deceased are 26-year-old Navdeep Kumar Yadav, a native of Raxaul in the East Champaran district of Bihar, India, and another Indian male whose identity has not yet been established.

Police Inspector Rijal said that the rescue team retrieved them in an unconscious state from the waters of the Phewa Lake and sent them to the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (Western Regional Hospital) for treatment, where doctors declared both of them dead.

Anmol Kumar Yadav (27) and Suraj Yadav (33), both from Raxaul in the Motihari district of Bihar, India, were rescued following the accident and taken to Gandaki Medical College for treatment. The car involved in the accident, bearing the Indian registration number BR 05 BB 6759, has been retrieved from Phewa Lake using a crane and is currently being kept at the Baidam Ward Police Office. Police Inspector Rijal stated that the police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
