As many as 12 central working committee members of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, have urged the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to withdraw his recent decisions of appointing leaders and members in various party departments.

Amid repeated objections from leaders of the opposing faction, Deuba had recently appointed dozens of leaders and cadres in various departments, apparently in his bid to influence the election for the party leadership scheduled for early next year.

Issuing a statement, 12 party leaders, namely: Chandra Bhandari, Dhan Raj Gurung, Kamala Panta, Gagan Thapa, Guru Raj Ghimire, Badri Pandey, Ratna Sherchan, Jeevan Pariyar, Pradeep Paudel, Sarita Prasain, Ram Krishna Yadav, and Kiran Yadav demanded Deuba withdraw the recent appointments and not repeat such acts before the convention scheduled for February next year. Such appointments raise a serious question regarding the fairness of the convention and they are against the party’s code of conduct, according to them.

“The party president is not a person but an institution,” they said, “He does not have any privilege to breach the party’s history, legacy, tradition, and system.”
