Kathmandu, October 13

Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar has called a meeting of top leaders of major political parties for Friday afternoon in a bid to find a consensual solution to the dispute regarding Medical Education Bill.

Chairpersons or their representatives of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre have been called for the meeting at the Parliament building at 2:30 pm today, according to Gharti’s press advisor Babin Sharma.

Speaker Gharti’s attempts to pass the bill had failed yesterday as the UML and Maoist Centre representatives said they would block tabling of the bill as the government became ready to incorporate suggestions of Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led panel into the bill as demanded by fasting-unto-death arthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC.

Meanwhile, Dr KC has asked the Speaker to use her special powers to push the bill into discussion as some leaders tried to hold the House captive and prevent the discussion as the legislative body is dissolving tomorrow.
