Sindhupalchok, August 5
Only 161 schools have reconstructed their buildings after the 2015 earthquake in Sindhupalchok, one of the most quake-hit districts.
Total 547 schools had collapsed or sustained damages in the quake.
Though the government had targeted to complete reconstruction works within three years from the earthquake, so far only 30 per cent works have been over.
Of them, 64 schools have completed reconstruction on their own whereas 97 schools received support form local, national and international non-government organisations.
Other 142 schools are being reconstructed by their own management committees and 34 by NGOs. Construction entrepreneurs were assigned to reconstruct 38 schools, and none of them have been completed.
Likewise, other 25 schools are yet to begin the reconstruction works. The schools have not begun the works as either they lack the land or are preparing to merge with other schools owing to low number of students.
Officials have blamed contractors for the slow pace of reconstruction.
