Rapti floods more than 100 hotels in Sauraha

Chitwan, August 13

The Budhi Rapti has entered the tourist town of Sauraha in Nepal’s southern Chitwan district, almost all hotels in the area have been inundated.

Regional hotel association Sauraha’s president Suman Ghimire said the rain which started on Friday, has inundated pubs, restaurant and hotels on the banks of the river. He said that guests have been moved to higher levels after the ground floor of 110 hotels were flooded. Vehicles parked outside the hotels have also been inundated.

According to RSS, 200 Nepalis, 200 Indian and another 200 from various countries are stranded in Sauraha. Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta said efforts were on to shift the trapped tourists to safer place.

Four rubber rafts have been sought from Devghat for the rescue operation, he added.
