Kathmandu, June 24

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has returned home after concluding his six-day official visit to China, on Sunday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel, who was given the responsibility of the PM in his absence, received the Prime Minister at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu this morning.

Speaking with the press at the airport, the Prime Minister said his visit was successful and the agreements his team made with China would help Nepal develop as a prosperous country.

While Oli was in Beijing, Nepal and China have signed some significant agreements including the one about extending Tibet’s railway line to Kathmandu. This has been hyped as the most significant achievement of Oli’s visit.

Likewise, other various understandings including for cooperation on development of cement industries, hydropower, cross-border transmission line, agriculture, construction of airports, highways were made during the visit.

Though the ruling party has termed the visit a successful one, the opposition parties of the country, however, have given mixed reactions on the visit. In particular, they have objected to the Prime Minister’s visit to the headquarters of Communist Party of China and mention of Nepal’s endorsement of Xi Jinping Thought in the joint statement the two governments issued as the visit was concluded.

The Prime Minister had embarked on the visit to the northern neighbour on June 19 on the invitation of the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
