Madhav Kumar Nepal to lead CPN in Oli, Dahal’s absence

L-R: Subas Chandra Nembang, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Ishwor Pokharel

Kathmandu, June 19

Nepal Communist Party senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has been given the responsibility of leading the party in the absence of chairs KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Prime Minister and CPN Chair Oli has embarked on a six-day official visit to China on Tuesday whereas Dahal has left for Singapore along with his wife for her health checkup on Monday.

This is the first time Nepal has taken the responsibility of party chief since 2008 when he resigned from the position of then CPN-UML General Secretary following the party’s defeat in parliamentary polls.

Meanwhile, NCP General Secretary Bishnu Poudel informs that three leaders have been given separate responsibilities of Oli in his absence.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwor Pokharel has taken the responsibility of acting Prime Minister in Oli’s absence as he is the senior-most Cabinet member.

Likewise, Subas Chandra Nembang will lead the party in Parliament.
