Leftist alliance will falter, Dahal will be next PM with Congress support: Narayan Khadka

Kathmandu, November 1

Nepali Congress leader Narayan Khadka says his party will again form a coalition with the CPN-Maoist Centre after parliamentary polls.

He says the leftist alliance between the CPN-UML and the Maoist Centre will not reach the phase of unification and it will break after the poll results.

In an interview with Onlinekhabar, Khadka says the UML will be deprived of the opportunity to lead the government though it is likely to emerge as the largest political party.

“After the elections, they will be blaming each other. If it gets another chance to lead the government, the Maoist Centre will come to our side. In that situation, we will propose Prachanda [Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal] to become the Prime Minister,” he says, “It is our duty to take the Maoists to a highway of democracy. Now, Prachanda has gone to a wrong alley. But, he will return to the highway after polls and the Congress will make him the PM.”

He also expresses his fear that foreign forces might get more active and interfere with internal issues of the country if the communist alliance becomes stronger.

Meanwhile, Khadka also regrets that his party failed to prevent the alliance between two communist parties as it could not understand and respect the Maoist Centre’s demand for more constituencies.

“The Maoists had demanded 40-45 seats for their candidates for upcoming elections. We had agreed to give 25-30 seats. But, they joined the group which offered them more space. We failed here,” he says, “But, in the long run, this alliance brings more losses than profits to the Maoists.”

According to Khadka, the Maoist party could field its candidates in all 165 constituencies if it contested independently; but now, it would be restricted to around 50 constituencies and would win around 10 of them.
