Internal dispute postpones RJPN presidium meeting indefinitely

Leaders of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal launch its election manifesto in Jaleshwor, on November 23, 2017.

Kathmandu, November 27

The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal has been unable to hold a meeting of its presidium since the party changed its coordinator seven days ago.

The party had called the meeting for Monday, but it could not take place owing to an internal dispute that was apparent in the change of leadership as well.

Now it is not certain when the meeting will take place.

Whereas leaders close to the new coordinator Rajendra Mahato claim the meeting was postponed as presidium member Raj Kishor Yadav was outside Kathmandu Valley, another presidium member Anil Kumar Jha has said he was not informed about the meeting.

Sources close to the party say majority members of the presidium removed Mahantha Thakur from the lead role last week as leaders close to Mahato want to join the federal government, which Thakur consistently opposed.

Likewise, the leaders are not together about whether to give continuity to the presidium after the general convention scheduled for April next year.

The party was forced by merging six Madhesh-centric parties in April 2017.
