The flagship series from Xiaomi for this year is the Xiaomi 14 series which includes the Xiaomi 14, the Xiaomi 14 Pro and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. However, only the base model of the series, the Xiaomi 14 is launched in Nepal. The smartphone is the successor of the Xiaomi 13.

The Xiaomi 13 series also included similar names to the 14 series which includes the Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Lite and the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The Xiaomi 14 Lite is not official but rumours have it that it will be the rebranded Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro with the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. Out of the four in the Xiaomi 13 lineup, the Xiaomi 13 Lite and the Xiaomi 13 Pro are available in Nepal.

The Xiaomi 14 has got major upgrades from its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13. The 14 has notable changes in the design, build, display features, chipset, camera features, connectivity features, battery size and charging features. The smartphone delivers quite a punch in the price it is available competing against the other high-end flagships.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi 14 has a slightly updated design on the back especially on the camera module. The Xiaomi 13 has a square-shaped camera module which has three cameras separated in four compartments with the bottom right corner with the flash. The 14 also has the same design language with a major difference. The camera module is slightly larger and the flash is now in the top right corner in a round shape complementing the rest of the camera lens. The back is made up of plastic and has a shiny matte finish to it.

The frame of the smartphone is made up of aluminium and has a shiny finish to it. The back is flat along with the frame with curved edges. The display on the front is similar with the minimum and almost equal bezels on the sides, top and chin. The selfie camera is on the centre hole-punch cutout. The display features a 6.36-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 2670 x 1200 and a pixel density of 460 pixels per inch (ppi). Its AdaptiveSync Pro feature dynamically adjusts the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, ensuring smooth visuals along with a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz responsive touch interactions.

The display’s brightness is remarkable, reaching up to 1000 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM) and peaking at 3000 nits for outdoor viewing experiences. It is equipped with Pro HDR capabilities and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, along with a wide colour gamut of 68 billion colours. Additionally, it has features like Reading Mode, DC dimming, and TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Flicker-Free, and Circadian Friendly display to go easy on the eyes.

The Xiaomi 15 has Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the front and IP68 dust and water resistance for built and safety against accidental harm.

Performance and Storage

The Xiaomi 14 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset built on a 4nm process. Its octa-core CPU configuration comprises a combination of one Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.3 GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.2 GHz, two Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0 GHz and two Cortex-A520 cores at 2.3 GHz. The octa-core CPU is supported by the Adreno 750 GPU for smooth and immersive gaming and multimedia experiences. The smartphone runs on the new Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14. The Xiaomi HyperOS has been getting a good response with the less advertisements and a better software experience.

As for the memory option, the Xiaomi 14 has a single option of 12GB RAM paired with 512B of storage available in Nepal. There are other memory options available in other countries like 8GB and 16GB RAM paired along with storage ranging from 128GB up to 1TB.

Camera

The rear camera setup of the Xiaomi 14 is equipped with Leica professional optical lenses that deliver professional-grade imaging capabilities. The main camera features a Leica VARIO-SUMMILUX lens with an aperture range of f/1.6 to f/2.2, with a Light Fusion 900 image sensor having 50MP resolution and 2.4μm pixel size. It also has optical image stabilization (OIS) and autofocus (AF) for sharp and steady shots even in challenging conditions. Additionally, it offers a 23mm equivalent focal length for versatile shooting.

Complementing the main camera is a Leica 75mm floating telephoto camera, featuring a 50MP lens with an f/2.0 aperture and OIS. This lens provides a 75mm equivalent focal length and supports 10cm macro photography. The Leica ultra-wide camera expands the viewing range with its 50MP sensor and 115° field of view, offering a 14mm equivalent focal length for capturing large landscapes and group shots.

The rear camera of the Xiaomi 14 offers a range of photography features, including two photographic styles: Leica Authentic Look, and Leica Vibrant Look, Leica filters, Leica classic shutter sound, Leica Watermark and a master lens system consisting of a 35mm Black and white lens, 50mm Swirly bokeh lens, 75mm Portrait lens, and 90mm Soft focus lens. It also has a dedicated Xiaomi Imaging System which has features like Xiaomi ProFocus (Motion tracking focus / Eye tracking focus / Motion capture), Lightning Burst, Night mode (wide/ultra-wide/telephoto), Portrait Night mode, Digital zoom up to 60x, HDR, 50MP mode (wide/ultra-wide/telephoto), AI watermark, Supermoon, Panorama, Documents, Long exposure, Pro mode, Image formats captured: DNG, HEIF, JPEG and RAW mode.

The rear camera of the Xiaomi 14 has support for HDR video with Dolby Vision up to 4K at 60 fps, HDR video at 4K and 30 fps. It offers 8K video recording at 24 fps and 4K at 24 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps and HD recording of 1080p at 30 fps or 60 fps and 720p at 30 fps.

It supports Ultra Night Video up to 4K at 24fps and slow-motion video videos at 720p and 1080p at 120fps, 240fps, 480fps, 960fps and 1920fps. The rear camera also has video features such as Movie mode, Director mode, HDR video recording with Dolby Vision, Xiaomi ProFocus (Motion tracking focus), Ultra Night Video, Short film, Video Pro mode, Video log format, ShootSteadyPro, Time-lapse and Slow motion video.

The front camera of the Xiaomi 14 is equipped with a 32MP lens featuring an f/2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 0.7μm. It offers an 89.6° field of view (FOV) and utilizes a 5P lens for clarity. It has features such as dynamic framing options (0.8x, 1x), Night mode, HDR, Portrait mode with bokeh and depth control, Palm Shutter, Timed burst and Movie frame.

The front camera also supports video features like Video teleprompter, Slow-motion selfie, Time-lapse selfie, and Movie frame. It offers video recording capabilities up to 4K resolution at 30 fps or 60 fps, as well as 1080p and 720p HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps. Additionally, it supports HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 1080p at 30 fps.

Battery and Charging

The Xiaomi 14 has a slightly increased battery capacity of 4610mAh. For charging, it supports fast 90W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging and also features reverse wireless charging to power up other devices. On the connectivity front, it boasts advanced Wi-Fi support of Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e/7 across dual bands and Bluetooth 5.4 for seamless wireless connections. It also supports both LTE and 5G networks and offers dual SIM capabilities.

For audio, the Xiaomi 14 includes stereo speakers, a 4-MIC Array, Dolby Atmos® support, and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification for an engaging audio experience. It includes a range of sensors including an in-screen fingerprint sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass, IR blaster, barometer, flicker sensor, and X-axis linear vibration motor.

The Xiaomi 14 is available in three colour options; Black, White and Green.
