Will act tough to cure Nepal Army of its cancer, says CoAS Thapa

Nepal Army Chief Purna Chandra Thapa

Kathmandu, September 10

Nepal Army chief Purna Chandra Thapa says he will act tough to cure his institution of a ‘cancer’ it is suffering from. By ‘cancer’, the Chief of Army Staff refers to all types of problems and malpractices existing in the organisation.

Addressing officials of his organisation after completing the first year in office on Tuesday, Thapa said he would be there in the office for the next two years and he will make several reforms in the institution.

“If we run the organisation traditionally, we will retire, but we can never return to it in the future due to a quagmire of the problems,” he said in his metaphoric address, adding he was excited to launch new reforms in the days to come. He said other officials of the army were also positive about his initiatives.

“We have to use the medicines wherever there is a problem,” he said, “Otherwise, the wounds will develop into cancer and trouble the Nepal Army forever.”
