Kathmandu, September 25

Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav says results of the third phase of local level elections in Province 2 are warning bells for major ‘national-scale’ parties.

In an interview with Onlinekhabar, he comments that the results did not favour any of the big parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre.

“The Nepali Congress is falling down from Terai Madhesh region though it was a Terai-based party earlier,” Yadav says about the party that emerged as the biggest force in the region, “Earlier, it had two-third majority support in villages and cities of Madhesh. But, it seems the good old days have gone now.”

Yadav says the UML could have received more votes than the Congress if it had supported the constitution amendment bill brought to address demands of Madheshi parties.

“But, it did not support the bill. Consequently, Terai people did not entertain the UML much.”

Accusing that the CPN-Maoist Centre received many votes by using money, he says, “The party has both power and money and all the votes it got are due to these two factors.”

“Nevertheless, the party could not show its strong influence, but only presence.”

Meanwhile, Yadav comes down heavily on another Madhesh-centric force, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, claiming it lacks any destination and political ideology.

“Just blaming each other in the name of Madheshis and Pahadis does not sustain politics; it just creates a sentiment,” he comments, claiming the Forum-Nepal does not form any election alliance with the RJPN for coming polls unless it corrects its mistakes.

He, however, maintains that the party is open for partnership on the basis of political agendas.

“We want to connect mountains, hills and plains. We do not have any communal, regional or ethnic mindset. We are socialist.”
