My visit has made way for PM Oli’s fruitful India trip: Finance Minister Poudel

Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has said Nepal-India relations have reached new heights.

Poudel said this while talking to the media at the Tribhuvan International Airport on his return from a three-day visit to India, on Wednesday. According to Poudel, his visit has been able to remove misunderstanding that had developed between the two countries of late.

Poudel said he held discussions with Indian leaders on ways to make the upcoming visit of Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli successful. The minister maintained that his visit has been able to make bilateral relations more cordial, vibrant and friendlier.

He said Nepali and Indian officials will work out the date for PM Oli’s visit. My visit has made way for Prime Minister Oli’s successful India visit, he said, adding that it will also contribute to strengthening of bilateral ties.

After the promulgation of a constitution, Nepal needs additional support and goodwill for its development, he said, adding that he drew India’s attention towards this. In course of his visit, Minister Poudel had held talks with Indian’s Home Minister Raj Nath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on matters of mutual interest and concern.

The Indian side had expressed readiness to provide economic resources and assistance in Nepal’s post-quake reconstruction works. India’s Finance Minister Jaitley said India was ready to provide loan assistance that it had pledged, assistance promised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Nepal visit and aid Indian had pledged during the donors’ conference held after (April 25 and May 12, 2015) earthquakes.

Jaitley had expressed willingness to provide assistance to Nepal in the field of physical infrastructure as per the latter’s needs and priorities.
