Unidentified gang kills Darchula couple

Darchula, May 26

An unidentified gang on Saturday night killed an ageing couple in Darchula district of Sudurpaschim province.

The victims have been identified as Draupadi Mahara, 65, and her 75-year-old husband Bir Bhan.

The District Police Office says the couple, who would run a grocery shop in Katai, Mahalaxmi Municipality-3 of the district to make a living, were killed by using a stick last night.

The couple’s grandson Lokendra, 12, sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Police Inspector Rabindra Kathayat says the wife’s body was recovered from the shop whereas the husband breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the District Hospital.

The neighbourhood’s war chairperson Padam Singh Mahara suspects the couple were murdered to rob them of gold jewellery and money.

Police are yet to find out suspects and the motive behind the murder.
