Kathmandu, September 4
Ten families have been relocated from Bhattar settlement in Apihimal Rural Municipality of Darchula after a landslide put the area at high risk and temporarily blocked the Chaulani River.
The families have been moved to relatives’ homes as a precaution, while the rural municipality has provided them with essential supplies, including tents.
“The 10 families have been moved to relatives’ homes, and we have provided some necessary materials, including tents,” said rural municipality chair Bhakt Singh Thekare Bohara.
According to Bohara, the landslide is still falling and the settlement remains at risk. It has also caused extensive damage to roads and trekking trails in the area.
The landslide temporarily blocked the Chaulani River, affecting its flow. The river has now reopened, according to local authorities.
Darchula Chief District Officer Bartaraj Paudel said the disruption to the river’s flow has increased the risk of flooding in settlements along its banks.
“People living along the river have been alerted to remain cautious because the river’s flow has been affected,” Paudel said.
The District Administration Office, Darchula, has also issued a public notice urging people to remain alert to the risk of flooding and avoid going near the riverbanks.
