Kathmandu, November 25

The United States General Assembly on Wednesday adopted a resolution to graduate Nepal from the least developed country (LDC) category.

The global body also decided to graduate Bangladesh and Laos also from the same category.

Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Amrit Rai, says the UN has also given Nepal a five years’ preparatory period. It means the country will be fully recognised as a developing country.

On the occasion, Rai reiterated Nepal’s commitment to making all-out efforts for smooth graduation with the enhanced level of support from the development partners including the UN system.

Nepal has been in the UN’s least developed country (LDC) category since 1971.
