Kathmandu, December 18
The final results of the election held to select the new leadership of the CPN-UML have been made public.
Elections were conducted for a 19-member office-bearers’ team. According to the final results released by the party’s Central Election Commission, candidates aligned with the faction led by chair KP Sharma Oli dominated the outcome.
Oli faced Ishwar Pokharel in the contest for the chair. Although the two leaders contested the election with separate panels, most candidates from the Oli panel emerged victorious. From the Pokharel panel, only Yogesh Bhattarai was elected vice-general secretary and Gokarna Bista vice-chair. All secretary posts were won by candidates from the Oli panel.
