Kathmandu, October 1

The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has begun its first statute convention to revise the party charter.

The party’s chairman KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the convention at the government’s new convention centre in Godawari of Lalitpur on Friday afternoon.

Over 6,000 party cadres representing all districts of the country have participated in the jamboree.

The party is set to amend its constitution introducing major changes in the party organisation such as the removal of senior leaders’ and deputy general secretaries’ positions.

The overall structure of the party’s central committee will also change and the party will elect the new committee as per the revised charter in December.

The meeting will also endorse Oli’s political report and general secretary Ishwar Pokharel’s organisational event.

The mega meeting will last until Sunday.
