The Kathmandu metropolitan city has published a new list of its property tax evaders that has some big names such as State Minister for Health Umesh Shrestha‘s Janamaitri Hospital and notorious businessperson Ajeya Raj Sumargi.
In its new notice, the city government has given 52 tax defaulters a period of 30 days to pay the taxes.
Others failing to pay the taxes include government-run corporations such as Nepal Electricity Authority, Food Management and Trading Company, Rastriya Nachghar, Sajha Bhandar and Employees Provident Fund.
KMC Revenue Department Chief Shiva Raj Adhikari says the city government will block their respective properties from any transaction and halt the city government’s services to them if they do not heed the notice.
Last week, the city had published a list of 20 tax evaders. Following the publication, many have contacted the concerned authority and submitted the first instalment, informs Adhikari.
