Trishuli III A: Tunnel construction at final stage

Kathmandu, September 13

The construction of tunnel for the Trishuli III A Hydropower Project has reached the final state, according to the project team.

The China Gezhouba Group Company Limited is constructing the project.

The construction was halted for around two years after the earthquake in 2015 April, but a span of 186 metres has been constructed in past two months.

A 3.89 km long section was already constructed before the earthquake. The tunnel will be 4.1 km in total.

If the earthquake had not halted the work, the project would have begun power generation from June-July last year. Now, the construction will be over by April 2019, according to the project chief Phanindra Raj Joshi.

The project will generate 60 megawatt energy.

The government has borrowed Rs 8,9 billion from a Chinese bank for the project. Citing the post-earthquake delay, the government has already requested the bank to extend the deadline for repayment.
