Tourism department urges travellers to postpone trips to high Himalayan regions

Department of Tourism

Kathmandu, October 28

The Department of Tourism has urged tourists and mountaineers to avoid travelling to high Himalayan regions from October 28 to November 1, citing the risk of heavy rainfall in various parts of the country and snowfall and avalanches in the Himalayan regions.

According to a weather bulletin issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely during the period.

The rainfall could increase the risk of floods, landslides and soil erosion, while snowstorms and avalanches are also forecast in Himalayan areas.

The department has urged tourists and mountaineers to avoid travelling to high Himalayan regions, as adverse weather conditions could disrupt trekking and mountaineering activities. It has also advised those already in the mountains to remain cautious.

The department has further urged travellers to plan their journeys based on the latest weather updates issued by official authorities.

It has also appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure the continuous and easy availability of treatment for acute mountain sickness (AMS) at health facilities in Himalayan regions, including Khumbu and Manang, as well as in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
