Tile production has begun in Nepal for the first time.

A factory has been established in Jitpur Simara sub-metropolis-8 for production in Nepal. Two traders who had been importing foreign tiles and hardware materials to the country have decided to start the factory.

Managing director of the Nepal Ceramic Industries, Manoj Rauniyar says they set up a factory after an in-depth study on tiles manufacturers in India.

Since the formation of the company, it has been producing tiles and competing with the ones imported from India.

Rauniyar says his company is using around 50 per cent Nepali clay to produce tiles. He said that the company had plans to manufacture the tiles completely based on Nepali clay and sand after a few months.

Different types of clay have been brought from Bara, Makawanpur and Dolakha districts and used for manufacturing tiles after completing test procedures. However, the colour and glaze used for the tiles are being imported.

Chairperson Shambhunath Jha claimed that the company’s production surpasses the quality of Indian tiles being imported into Nepal. He shared his plan to diversify the production of tiles that can be used for walls.

As many as 400 people are getting direct employment in the industry.

“The industry will help make Nepal self-reliant on tiles manufacturing,” he says.

He urged the government to lend support in managing raw materials and marketing.
